Cosmopolitan Sri Lanka teamed up with the stellar Darshi Keerthisena, creative director of Buddhi Batiks, to create a sustainable piece for Cosmo’s fashion campaign, ‘Sustainability Meets Style’.

Here are some interesting tidbits you probably didn’t know.

  1. A dried lead leaf was the inspiration behind the texture of this dress!

  2. Darshi came up with the idea of making a glamorous evening dress using her mother’s old sarees. Recycle and reuse, right?

  3. After countless experiments, Darshi settled on old gunny bags to make the bodice of the dress.

  4. Despite an initial concern, the gunny material held the dye really well.

  5. Unbeknownst to many, biodegradable dyes were used in creating this dress.

  6. The brand strongly believes in making sustainability fun and accessible by continuously making funky products.
