And here’s how you do it!

Q/ Are there any style hacks to look taller without having to wear high heels every day?

A/ Height makes just about anyone look good. Here are a few tips to emphasise it.

  • Slip into a pair of shorts or mini skirt with a short-sleeved top to highlight the legs and arms. Tip: Keep an eye out for high-waisted bottoms as they’re trending.
  • Shop for wedges over stilettos as they’re comparatively less taxing on the feet.
  • Maxis can make you look taller by covering your legs making you look more elongated. Make sure the top part of the outfit is form fitting to give your waistline definition. Ensuring the hem hits your ankles (and not any longer) will give the impression of longer legs.
  • Avoid buttoned-up tops, and instead, opt for V-neck clothes to pull the attention towards your collarbones.
  • If you’re wearing jeans, create an illusion of length by breaking up the outfit with a little skin in between. You can do this by knotting your blouse at your waist or wearing a crop top.
  • Pick clothes that are monochrome or have vertical stripes as they’re known to trick the eye into believing you’re taller than you really are.

Q/  How do I be extra AF without looking like a Christmas tree?

A/ Wearing flashy fashion statements alone won’t make you the stand out during the holiday festivities. But, we’ve got a few fairly unconventional looks you can pull off without any fear.

  • Wear a metallic skirt with navy blue or hot pink crop top for a lively vibe. Pair it with accessories made of feathers and slip into tie-up lace shoes.
  • Pair shiny sneakers with a backless white dress. And, don’t forget a choker necklace and ear studs. Go the extra mile by fixing on some subtle, yet glossy, body art stickers.
  • Get your satin robe on and zip up thigh-high boots (this might not be ideal in Colombo, but what’s fashion without taking a few risks?). Wrap a sequined headband around your forehead to take your outfit to the next level.
  • Repurpose a sequined bodycon dress by tucking it into a pair of distressed jeans and coupling it with a pair of statement hoops.

Q/ I’m gearing up for the new year by purging my wardrobe. What pieces should I get rid of?

  • Extra black t-shirts – Bold colours and pretty patterns are very in, so, now is not the time to depend on multiple black tees.

  •  Faded clothes – Create better impressions by ditching your favourite, yet, worn out outfits. Can’t bear to part with them? Wear them to bed at night.
  • Dad sneakers – Even when they were #trending, fashion critics noted how they kill the vibe of an entire outfit. Instead of this, shop the almond-shaped sneakers that can make anything look cute!
  • Off-shoulder tops – This was once very popular, but with all the new trends, you don’t have to stick with these.
  • Counterfeit products – If you want to make a positive change in 2019, then the first step is to stop using products (think garments, footwear, handbags, skincare and cosmetics) made using child labour and bribes. Choose to invest in one or two authentic pieces that will stand the test of time while freeing up some space in your wardrobe.
