Gear up for one heck of a marathon.
That feeling of watching a good movie on a Friday night, curled up on the couch and munching on your favourite snack is simply awesome. It’s a great way to relax after a hard week at work. You’ve planned your time around the films you have to catch up on and stocked up on nibbles. Now all you need to do is sit back and enjoy every scene. In the end, if the movie was epic, there’ll be that one line(s) stuck in your head.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of the X-Men franchise. For me, Magneto saying, “Mankind has always feared what it doesn’t understand.” in ‘X-Men: First Class,’ was the mindset of humanity explained in one sentence. Being very fascinated by human nature, I came across another unforgettable line in the movie, ‘Veronika Decides To Die.’ In the story, Claire, a patient at an asylum declared, “Learn to think as those around you think and you can pass yourself off as anything. You think outsiders are any less crazy than we are?” This brilliant dialogue made me reconsider how I saw the world and people.
I was interested to find out if other people, too, had notable quotes from films. So, I hunted up some movie buffs and these are the lines they considered memorable.
‘The past can hurt, you can either run from it or learn from it.’ – Rafiki, ‘Lion King’
Veera, 21 said, “I love Lion King ‘cause the entire movie was an emotional rollercoaster. It gave us a glimpse of a situation we can easily come across in our lives. I’m sure most people who watched it shed quite a few tears. That one quote made me realize that running away from troubles won’t help me move forward in life. It’s always best to stand firm and face them head-on!”
‘I serve society by rocking!’ – Dewey Finn, ‘School Of Rock’
“I drew inspiration to get into music from this movie. The cast and the songs are amazing, as was the story. Jack Black played a super role and I rewatch it often,” stated Jehan, 24.
‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner.’ – Johnny Castle, ‘Dirty Dancing’
“I have a short attention span so movies are not really my forte. However, as a kid one of my favourites was ‘Dirty Dancing.’ The original is iconic and had a combination of romance, dancing and an amazing soundtrack that I still listen to. I love the excerpt, ‘Nobody puts Baby in a corner’ said by Patrick Swayze, because it shows his love for Jennifer Grey’s character, Baby, and that he would always have her back, no matter what. I guess that’s the kind of love that many of us aspire to have,” described Nish, 30.
‘You are not what you were born, but what you have within yourself to be.’ – Godfrey of Ibelin, ‘Kingdom Of Heaven’
Warna, 28 shared, “I feel that the line speaks for itself. The only way we can define our true selves is by our conduct and our achievements, not by the circumstances in which we were born. This is something we can all use when we feel down. I think that ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ is an epic movie with a touching story and an interesting plot. The script is great and there are so many lessons that can be learned from it.”
‘The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.’ – Christian, ‘Moulin Rouge’
“This musical is an all-time classic that everyone must watch. The scores, colourful costumes, impressive set designs; there’s so much to love in this movie. Also, who can forget the epic love story that takes place amid all the chaos? This particular quote remains a fave, ‘cause I’m a hopeless romantic and I ardently believe in the cliché, ‘It’s better to have loved and lost than to have not loved at all’! It gives me hope and I’m ever the optimist,” commended Avanti, 30.
