Another new way to share your life with the world.
Facebook has launched “Messenger Day”, a new feature which lets people share illustrated filter-enhanced photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours. Sound familiar?
Yep, it’s now possible to share visually appealing moments from throughout the day using yet another social media platform. The feature follows the launch of Messenger’s new built-in camera and visual art tools, and after testing in Poland last year, Messenger Day is now being rolled out globally on Android and iOS, starting with the UK and US.
While it’s safe to say much of the concept is pretty identical to Snapchat and Instagram Stories, there are a few notable differences. Messenger Day uses graphic filters as suggestions for what to share, unlike Snapchat’s geofilters, and there are over 5,000 frames, effects and stickers to choose from, some of which are exclusive to Messenger. The platform has also partnered with social media influencers to create custom content which can be added to your Day.
Another priority for Facebook Messenger’s version of Stories has been giving control to users. After a video or photo has been customised, it can be saved to your phone’s camera roll and you can choose to send it to whoever you want, whether that’s a specific person or a group of friends. This can be adapted through tapping the “more” icon, which lets you select either “Everyone Except” or “Custom.” And if you share something to your Day that you have second-thoughts about, there’s also a handy “delete” option.
So, want to get started? To get prepared, make sure you’ve updated your Messenger app so you have the latest version. Detailed instructions on how to use the platform are available on Facebook here.
