How To Make The Most Of A Public Holiday

Don’t completely sleep the day away!

One of the best things about living on this paradise isle is the frequent holidays. From poyas to religious festivals, it can truly be quite blissful. If you’re anything like us, you’d ideally like to stay in bed for the better part of the holiday, catching up on some much need zzzs. Sleeping in for an extra hour or two is totally fine, and in fact we completely recommend it! But try not to while away all the hours in dreamland, and instead take full advantage of the short work week.

Stay Ahead Of Your Chores

Yes, we know. This is the last thing you’d want to hear, but you’ll be thankful in a couple of days for staying on top of your laundry. Besides, it won’t take you too long to load the washing machine and go about your business.

Catch Up With Friends

With a demanding career that leaves little room for a social life, somewhere down the line, your friends get neglected. So, the next time you find yourself slap-bang in the middle of a holiday, give your BFF a tinkle, or better yet, meet up for a cuppa.

Grab A Bite To Eat

On a similar note, if you’re a foodie, grab your bestie or S.O and try out a new restaurant or café. A little food never hurt nobody!

Hit The Beach

There’s something about being by the ocean that is wonderfully soothing. So drive down to the beach – Mount Lavinia or Negombo – for a dip in the sea and relax on the sand for the afternoon.

Spa Date

If you’re in dire need of some ‘me’ time, consider booking an appointment at your nearest spa for a little R&R. Besides, who doesn’t love a good massage?

Spend Time With Family

A public holiday is as good a time as any to catch up with parents, siblings and cousins. Often, they are the first to get ignored during those hectic work days, and since they’ll very likely be available on this day, stay in and break open the Monopoly board for a little family fun!

Don’t attempt to do too much in one day, obvs, because you’ll wind up feeling more drained than refreshed. Try a couple of these suggestions at a time, and you’ll walk into work the following day feeling rejuvenated and ready to finish the week!
