Down With The Flu? Try Our Top Tip To Get You Back On Your Feet

During the monsoon season catching the flu is inevitable for most people and it’s annoying to head out to a party or dinner with a flowing nose. Why don’t you opt for a steam treatment that will give you some well-deserved relief from that nasty cold?

How’s It Done?

Fill a bowl or basin with boiling water. Place a towel over your head and lower your face and inhale the steam rising from the water. Take deep breaths and make sure you cover all sides of the bowl to prevent heat from escaping. Also, be careful to not touch the surface of the container or the water, in order to prevent burns. Keep your eyes closed during the entire process to avoid any irritation or discomfort. You can also add an essential oil like peppermint or eucalyptus for added benefit. Alternatively, you could run a hot shower with the doors closed and inhale the steam inside.

Why Is Steaming So Effective?

The hot vapour you breathe in circulates through your body, increasing the temperature and dilating blood vessels. This causes an improvement in blood flow and opens up the pores of your skin. It clears your nasal passages so the mucus does not stagnate inside your nose. Continue the treatment twice a day for as long as required and you’ll feel the difference. Tip: Keep steaming for at least 1 week.
