It’s not that complicated
Your flight is booked and you are jet setting off to an exotic location. But before you leave, make sure you pack a few flight essentials in your carry-on bag to make your travel as easy and breezy as possible.
Tote or Backpack
Depending on what you plan to take with you onboard (laptop, camera etc.) and your flying-time, you can choose from a bag, from somewhere along the spectrum beginning at totes and culminating at backpacks. For shorter flights, a shopper should do; but the minute you hit the 6-hour mark, you’re going to want to go for backpack.
Cardigan and/or Shawl
Airplanes are always freezing, so it might be a good idea to take a shawl and/or cardigan with you. If the destination you are travelling to is bound to be chilly, the cardigan and shawl will come in handy, regardless.
Socks are a good idea on cold flights, but compression socks will serve you better in the long run. A condition called “economy-class syndrome,” stemming from travel related Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), causes blood clots from long periods of air travel in confined spaces. Passengers who wear compression socks during their flights that are over four hours can reduce swelling and the risk of DVT.
You never know if, by a stroke of ill fate, your luggage will get lost and you will be stuck in a strange land with no clothes until the airline finds your precious bags. So it is always useful to pack a lightweight dress in your carry-on in such an instance. It’s also great for when you want freshen up mid-flight or during your transit.
Clear Pouch for Liquids
Most airlines have specific requirements of the quantity of liquid you can bring on board. A clear pouch carrying all your liquids and small essentials will work well. Be sure to pack travel-sized toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, lotion, lip balm, hand sanitizer and face wipes.
A must-have especially if you have a long haul flight and you’re travelling economy.
Seated next to a yapping lady? Or someone’s child is crying down the aisle? Headphones are your friend and will help you block it all out.
Electronics and Chargers
Pack chargers for any electronic devices you bring with you i.e. laptop, phone, tablet. (Also, don’t forget to take a travel adaptor that fits into the outlets found in your destination.)
With limited space in your carry-on, it is best to keep the products you take with you to a minimum. Under-eye concealer, to cover up any dark circles from your flight, and mascara to open up your peepers will definitely help.
Panty Liners/Sanitary Napkins
Depending on what you need, having panty liners or sanitary napkins on hand will help keep you feeling refreshed and stress-free.
On a similar note, it doesn’t hurt to pack a spare pair of underwear…just in case.
Don’t forget your passport, credit cards and/or cash! In the case of loss or theft, it is always a good idea to scan and email yourself a copy of important documents. Safe travels!
