Best lips eva straight from your kitchen!
We all know that uber dry lips can be the biggest turn-off, not to mention a difficult base on which to apply that matte lippie. Whip up these home recipes to get the softest lips of your life. It’s time to get to work and, we promise, you won’t spend a fortune!
Step 1: Exfoliate
Apply either of these mixtures onto your lips and scrub lightly with your fingers for a few seconds, then rinse with warm water. Do this no more than twice a week.
Brown Sugar and Vanilla (We swear, it’s not a cupcake recipe!)
• 2t. brown sugar
• 1/2t. honey
• 1t. olive oil
• 1/4t. vanilla extract
Add honey and olive oil to a bowl and mix together. Then incorporate the sugar and, lastly, the vanilla. Refrigerate the leftovers (seriously), but make sure to finish them off in a couple of days.
Coconut Oil and Sugar
• 1T. coconut oil (The coconut oil has to be solid and smooth enough to be dug into with a spoon. For this, stick the oil in the refrigerator for a few hours prior to preparation.)
• 1T. honey
Mix the honey and the coconut oil to create a base. Add in the brown sugar and mix until well-blended. This scrub will last up to 2 weeks when refrigerated.
Step 2: Use A Moisturising Serum
We all know how important moisturising is for our skin and that includes our lips! Yes, your everyday lip balm or lip-gloss works but make sure to use one without petroleum jelly as the chemical may eradicate the natural moisturising properties of your lips, eventually drying them out.
This DIY serum is super easy to make at home, and is totally organic. Mix a little olive oil, honey and aloe extract. If aloe extract is hard to come by, it’s totally fine to skip it. The serum works well regardless.
Apply onto your lips and leave it on for 10 mins, then wash away with warm water.
Step 3: Plump That Pucker
From Jolie to Kylie, we know that plump lips are here to stay. And now you can (organically) plump up your own!
Store-bought lip plumping products work the same way as these homemade ones, and that is by slightly irritating, and hence increasing the circulation to, your lips. Don’t panic! It’s an ever-so-slight irritation and totally safe! Here’s what you need:
• 1T. Olive oil
• 1t. Cinnamon powder
• 1T. Salt or sugar
Mix together all the ingredients and apply on lips. Leave for 5-10 minutes, massaging lightly with your fingers, then rinse with warm water.
Disclaimer: Cinnamon is the key ingredient here. If you want a super heavy plump, add more. But if your pout gets out of control (we’re talking Kris Jenner in the Dominican Republic level crisis), just wipe away the mixture quickly, apply olive or coconut oil and use some ice cubes to cool down your lips. Practice makes perfect so don’t be afraid to experiment!
That’s it! Say hello to your irresistibly plump and oh-so-soft lips. Gloss it, matte it, tint it, it’s your canvas to paint bold and vivid. Boo will NEVER be able to say no.
