With a successful blog (Love, Plate), more than 15K followers on Instagram, modelling contracts and her humanitarian clothing brand, X.TINA, to develop, she certainly has her hands full…and is having the best time ever.
As a child, I never imagined I’d be doing so many things with my life. I knew I wanted to get into fashion design by the age of 7, but it was only as I grew older that I realized I had a passion for modelling as well. My interest in blogging emerged only last year, when I noticed a significant gap in the Sri Lankan lifestyle content space.
Growing up, I realized I was not someone who could be happy with a 9-5 job , so I made an alternative plan. A typical day for me consists of me working on my blog and brand or being on set at a photoshoot. I also make it a point to set aside enough time for my family, friends and pets. Apart from that, Abu Dhabi is my second home so I’m constantly on the move, which works out great as I adore travelling and exploring different places.
Juggling multiple passions and roles isn’t all that uncommon, but having the right mindset is vital. With early mornings, late nights, and way too many responsibilities to keep track of, it’s pretty hard to find a balance between fulfilling your commitments to your various jobs and maintaining your sanity. It all boils down to meticulous planning and prioritizing tasks—concentration and hard work is key!
Whatever your dream maybe or how silly it may sound, just go for it. The most important thing I’ve learnt in my 20s is that, you’re capable of achieving whatever you want, provided you don’t lose focus. Successful people are relentless goal setters. They break down larger milestones into smaller, more achievable tasks. If you’ve heard that doing what you love isn’t real work, that’s definitely incorrect. Every task that can help you progress in your career or help you achieve great things has inherent value, because in order to be fulfilled with your life, you need to find and do something you truly love.
I wouldn’t say I have my life together the way I had always imagined, but I am confident I’m on the right path. Life has a way of turning things upside down when we least expect it. The good news is that no matter how old you are, you always have the chance to start over; it is never too late to achieve your dreams and, regardless of age, you owe it to yourself to try. I’m a strong believer in the fact that we make our own success.
As part of the millennial generation, we have an inherent need for things to happen at the touch of a button; we’re not used to waiting around and our patience is minimal. But, when it comes to making your dreams a reality, there’s no fast forward button through which you can “teleport” yourself to the finish line. It takes time, persistence and changing gears if you feel yourself grinding to a halt.
At the end of the day, to live a full life is to do what makes you happy, no matter how many things that entails! You deserve to explore every single avenue to create the life you want. But, only you can make it happen. Life’s too short to be stuck doing things you don’t love. Make the change and start discovering. No one day will ever be the same!
